The Leutascher Geisterklamm in autumn

The village

A high plateau, sixteen kilometres long.

Leutasch lies at 1,136 metres between the Wetterstein and Karwendel ranges, on the Bavarian border. Not a village with one centre, but a chain of hamlets strung across the plateau — Weidach, Kirchplatzl, Obern, Moos, Gasse.

About Leutasch

The plateau we stand on.

Where exactly we are

Our chalets and Landhaus Moritz stand in Weidach, a part of Leutasch up on the plateau. Anyone searching for “accommodation Leutasch Weidach” means this corner: quiet, sunny, looking out at the Wetterstein range with the forest within walking distance.

Wilderer Hof is taking shape around 150 metres from the chalets — also in Weidach. Three of our four houses are therefore within walking distance of one another. If you travel with several families who do not fit into one house, you still stay side by side.

The village centre with supermarket, bakery and restaurants is five minutes by car. The cross-country trail starts three minutes away.

A cross-country plateau, not a ski circus

That is more honest than the opposite: Leutasch has two small lifts, no more. If you want downhill runs, you drive to Seefeld, to the Rosshütte or the Gschwandtkopf — barely a quarter of an hour.

What the plateau stands for is cross-country skiing. The trails of the Seefeld region are among the largest networks in Europe, and in Leutasch they run along the Ache and up into the Gaistal. From us you step into the track after a three-minute walk.

Add to that winter walking paths, toboggan runs and snowshoe tours. The floodlit A1 night trail starts at the Seekirchl or at the Arena365 in Seefeld. Current times and open sections are in the region's trail report.

In summer the plateau belongs to walkers

650 kilometres of marked paths start here. The best-known circuit is the Leutasch Geisterklamm: steel walkways run along above the gorge, in places directly over the water, and the waterfall path ends at a 23-metre fall. If you prefer something quieter, head into the Gaistal.

If you want to go higher, head into the Gaistal — a side valley towards Ehrwald with several working alpine huts. Tillfussalm, Rotmoosalm, Bodenalm: all reachable in a morning, all with a kitchen.

At Lake Weidachsee you can walk and fish; it is not a swimming lake. For swimming there is Lake Mösern and the bathing area at the Wildsee in Seefeld. For cycling there are marked routes in the Gaistal and the trails at Katzenkopf.
